Rightful tips to increase immunity

TIPS to boost your immune system : -

The immune system protects our body against pathogens like bacteria and viruses, and limit damage from noninfectious agents like sunburn or cancer.

Here are seven essential tips to keep the immune system healthy:

1. Eat a Healthy Diet

The nutrients from food, especially plant-based foods like fruits, vegetables, herbs, and spices, are essential to keep the immune system functioning properly.

Nutrients like zinc, folate, iron, selenium, copper, and vitamins A, C, E, B6, and B12 from the food are important for the immune system to function properly.

2. Keep Stress Under Control

Long-term stress leads to chronically elevated levels of a hormone called cortisol. When cortisol levels are consistently high, it essentially blocks the immune system in protecting the body against infections.

There are many effective stress-reduction techniques; one such is meditation. Any activity that you enjoy (fishing, playing golf, or drawing) can also reduce stress.

3. Get Plenty of Good Quality Sleep

The body heals and regenerates while we sleep, make adequate sleep critical for a healthy immune response.

Sleep deprivation also elevates cortisol levels, which is also not suitable for immune function.

All adults need to get at least seven hours of sleep per night to optimize health.

4. Exercise Regularly

Regular exercise lowers the risk of developing chronic diseases like obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease, as well as viral and bacterial infections.

Exercise also increases the release of hormones called endorphins that create feelings of pleasure, which in turn help to manage stress.

Outdoor exercises such as spending time in nature have been shown to support mood, lower blood pressure, reduce inflammation, and support immune system health. Sunshine also boosts vitamin D in the body, which plays a crucial role in immune health.

5. Practice Moderation With Alcohol

Drinking high amounts of alcohol is associated with a range of adverse health effects, including lowered immune function. Limit your alcohol consumption to one drink (equivalent to a 4-ounce glass of wine) per day if you’re a woman and two drinks per day if you’re a man, as recommended by the NIH.

6. Don’t Smoke

Cigarette smoking can also affect immune health. In particular, the toxins released by cigarette smoke carbon monoxide, nicotine, nitrogen oxides, and cadmium interfere with the growth and function of immune cells.

7. Keep Symptoms of Chronic Conditions Under Control

Chronic conditions like asthma, heart disease, and diabetes can affect the immune system and increase the risk of infections.

Living with a chronic condition may prolong the recovery time compared to that of a healthy adult. If you manage your chronic diseases better, the immune system can more intensely fight off the infection.
